I’ve been in the catering industry all my working life, including spells with big operators like Hilton hotels, but in 2006 it was time for a change and we moved here from Leicestershire. We decided on the name for the cafe “Vanilla Kitchen” – or as the locals call it “VK”
The Café itself started in 1987 and used to be called “Hills and Dales”, after the owners at the time. Before that there was a joiners and undertakers on the site, dating back to the late 1800s.
I am passionate about food, I love cooking and baking; creating my own recipes and adding imaginative twists to all time classic favourite dishes.
Here at Vanilla Kitchen, Tideswell we support local suppliers; sourcing our bread and teacakes from “Tindalls” and our sausages and black pudding from N.T Gibbs & Son. We offer an ever changing breakfast and lunch menu, gorgeous cakes, biscuits and pastries which are all made here on the premises with love and care.
Our range of VK marmalades and chutneys are also available for purchase in the cafe.
We’ve had great success in winning awards, and have 3 Great Taste Awards, including 2 this year, for our Lemon and Cardamom Scented biscuits and our Gluten Free Triple Chocolate Brownie, (2stars!).
We employ around 10 local part time staff here and people tell us it has a friendly atmosphere, equally welcoming to local residents, holiday makers and visitors to the village.
